Reteaching the Tools

TEACHING OF HOW TO RETEACH
Use this tool if you would rather have one of our discipled leaders help you teach this tool to your discipleship group.

Why we Reteach?

We ask that each person in your group take time to reteach one or more of the tools they have experienced or learned during the group. The goal is not simply to review information, but to practice owning and sharing the tools that help us grow as disciples. When someone is able to clearly explain and walk others through a tool, it shows that they have begun to internalize it and are preparing to pass it on to others.

This approach creates a valuable two-fold opportunity for the group. First, the person teaching gains the experience of leading others through the tool. This allows them to practice communicating it clearly while also receiving helpful feedback and coaching from the group on how they presented it. It also helps protect the integrity of how our tools are taught. By practicing together, we ensure that we are using common language and common methods across all contexts. This shared understanding helps maintain clarity and consistency so that the tools are communicated faithfully as they are passed from person to person.

Second, reteaching allows the entire group to revisit the tools together and reflect on how well they are currently applying them in their own lives. It provides a natural opportunity to pause, evaluate, and ask honest questions: Am I still using this tool? Has it shaped the way I read Scripture, pray, or engage others? What areas do I need to grow in?

Ultimately, this process helps move the group from simply learning information to living it out and multiplying it. As each person practices teaching and applying these tools, the group becomes better equipped to faithfully walk with Jesus and help others do the same.

Scriptures:

  • 2 Timothy 2:2 - And what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, commit to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.

  • John 15:15 - I do not call you slaves anymore, because a slave doesn’t know what his master is doing. I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything I have heard from My Father.

Teach:

Step One: Assign each Person in your group a minimum of one tool they will Reteach to the group. (Assignment Sheet Below)

Step Two: Give your Discipleship Group members the necessary resources to succeed. This would include access to this website, a playbook, and any other help they might need.

Step Three: It is encouraged that the person leading “take the reigns” as though they were leading the group on the night they are reteaching. This could include hosting the group at their home.

Step Four: They teach the tool. Allow them to teach fully through the tool, while you the leader take notes. Once they have concluded give clear feedback on how they did!

Competency

Competency is a foundational pillar of the Discipleship Pathway. If the people in our group cannot teach or reproduce the tools, experiences, and habits they have received, we risk failing to pass on what we have learned. Just as Jesus walked with His disciples for three years, He demonstrated and imparted methods that His followers could replicate after His ascension. Our aim is not merely to convey knowledge but to cultivate observable competency—so that each learner can embody, apply, and pass on the practices of discipleship.
